I started publishing audiobooks on my YouTube channel in December 2023. I published the fiction equivalent of seven seasons of television in 2024 alone.

My audiobooks draw primarily from my Starships Universe military science fiction series, which consists of 23 titles and three collections. I’ve produced and published over 700 videos. I also have fantasy, gamelit and non-fiction titles.

In 2024, starting from scratch, I drove over 411,000 hours of watch time from 768,000 views.

Based on data and viewing patterns provided by YouTube, I reached an estimated 110,000 unique viewers in 2024.

The average individual view on my channel lasted over 31 minutes. According to Databox, the median watch time across YouTube generally is roughly 90 seconds. Based on this analysis, my channel was in the top 0.1% of all channels measured by viewer retention.

My channel consists primarily of spoken word fiction. Very few videos have visuals or commentary. I essentially published a radio show on a video platform.

My audience is 97% men, 83% of whom are over 45. Essentially my audience is roughly the same as the audience for NFL games.

I spent $0.00 marketing my channel. All our audience growth was organic.

My bookstore, which benefits tremendously from the success of my channel, set multiple all-time sales records last year. And set even more in 2025.

What I did in 2024 was a proof of concept. Now that I’ve proven the model, I’m going to build a similar audience of women with my fantasy series. Then we’re going to expand to other platforms.
